Where Caribbean Fire Comes to Life
Our Story: From the Caribbean to the Riviera Maya
Ferron’s Jerk Chicken was born far from Mexico, on a small Caribbean island. It was in Grand Turk, in Turks & Caicos, where our chef and co-founder first prepared his a
That experience planted an idea: one day, that Caribbean flavor had to become something bigger.
When the Caribbean came to Mexico
Years later, already in Mexico, during a friend’s birthday, the chef prepared his famous jerk chicken for lunch. What happened was very similar to what happened on the island: everyone was fascinated.
“Open a place, this doesn’t exist in Mexico!”, they repeated to us again and again.
In that same meeting was present who would become our mentor and business advisor. With his guidance, we began to land what until then was just a dream: Bringing the authentic Jerk flavor of Jamaica to Mexico.
Testing the market in Guadalajara
We started cooking once a week just for friends, but in less than a month, people from all over the city were looking for us.
The recommendations grew, and so did the demand. That’s when we realized we had something special on our hands and decided to turn it into a restaurant.
Launch in Playa del Carmen
Thus, in 2012, with great enthusiasm and few resources, we opened the first Ferron’s Jerk Chicken in Playa del Carmen.
At that time, almost no one knew jerk chicken or Jamaican cuisine, so we went out to the streets to explain, offer tastings, hand out flyers and tell our story.
Our growth was 100% organic: without social networks, without digital campaigns, only word-of-mouth recommendation and the strength of an authentic flavor.
Our first expansion
In 2015 we took an important step: we expanded and remodeled our first location, and we shaped the visual identity of Ferron’s Jerk Chicken. We went from being a small place to a restaurant with its own personality. Today, those first photos are part of our history and everything we have built together.
A new experience for locals and visitors
In 2022 we opened our second branch near Fifth Avenue, in Playa del Carmen.
This space was born with the idea of offering a more complete experience: outdoor terrace, bar, beers, cocktails and, of course, our jerk chicken, ribs and Caribbean side dishes. It is the ideal meeting point for both locals and tourists looking for authentic Jamaican food on the Riviera Maya.
Our first franchise
The growth of Ferron’s Jerk Chicken caught the attention of an important restaurant group in the city. Together we opened our first franchise in Tulum, where for two years we experienced a very successful stage.
However, the drop in tourism in the area affected many businesses, including ours, and we made the decision to close that location to look for new opportunities within the Riviera Maya.
That experience confirmed something very important to us: our brand can grow and work in the hands of new partners, always maintaining the essence of Ferron’s Jerk Chicken.
New challenges, new learnings
Some time later we opened another own location in Playa del Carmen. It was one of the most beautiful restaurants we have had, but the building did not have the ideal conditions for the operation of a restaurant in the long term.
Although we decided to relocate it, this stage left us with a great learning: each step, even the most challenging ones, has strengthened our vision of quality, service and growth.
Our future: to take Ferron’s Jerk Chicken and its flavors to as many places as possible
Today we continue to successfully offer our initial 2 locations and in 2024 our effort was recognized by the Ministry of Tourism, awarding us the award for Best Caribbean Restaurant in Playa del Carmen.
Our future
- To bring Ferron’s Jerk Chicken and its flavors to as many places as possible.
- Continue consolidating our brand, Ferron’s Jerk Chicken within the Riviera Maya and, later, bring the authentic Jerk flavor to other cities in Mexico and even internationally.
We firmly believe that our Jerk dish specialties are one of the most special flavors of Jamaica’s gastronomy, and we want to share it with more and more people.
